2006 Audit
In an effort to inform workforce planning,
the TAB has gathered information about the
trainees who have attained their Certificate
of Competence as well as those currently
undergoing training. Questionnaires were
sent to 22 training laboratories and
responses were received from 18. Many thanks
to those labs who sent their data to Sarah.
From this data, it is reassuring to see that
the retention rate is high, with 92% of
trainees completing the first two years of
their training programme. In addition, the
average period of time to taken to attain
the Certificate of Competence was 27 months,
well within the 36 month limit recently
suggested by the TAB.
Just over 60% of trainees undertook
Pre-Registration training in their original
laboratory and upon completion of training,
60% of trainees were retained on a permanent
contract. Approximately 37% of
Pre-registration scientists were registered
2 years after attaining the Certificate of
Competence.
As shown below, the number of trainees
peaked in 2005 |
