National Technologist Training
Day
More than 70 people attended a
training day held in Birmingham,
on 2nd June. Presentations
covered a wide range of topics
and feedback was very
complimentary regarding the
quality of the talks. Future
training days are planned to
include refreshments with a
slightly reduced programme. It
has been suggested that
training days might be linked to
topics covered in the National
Training Programme for Genetic
Technologists, which is
currently under development. If
you have any further ideas or
suggestions please contact your
Regional or National Trainer.

Genetic Technologists
Following an inconclusive
outcome from Skills for Health
on GT training, the TAB has
decided to develop a pragmatic
national training programme.
National trainer, Sarah
Warburton, and Chair of AGCT,
Marcus Allen, have begun work on
this, based on a 3-year
programme. A competencies
document will also be published
which is line with that already
published for trainee clinical
scientists.
The
TAB wish to encourage heads of
laboratories to include
voluntary registration with VRC
as desirable in GT job adverts
and person specifications.
The
CMGS is eager to encourage
membership from genetic
technologists, and will consider
a technology session at the next
CMGS spring meeting.
